While NHL players were working on little more than their golf swings and sun tans, FundSERV communications associate Marie Wonnacott has had a full season, and then some.

Wonnacott is captain of the Oshawa Wolves, a team in the highly competitive senior division of the North Metro Women's Hockey League. She's a forward, playing both left and right wing, and she's the third-highest point scorer on the team. She's also about halfway through an executive MBA and volunteers at a cancer support centre in Durham Region.

That's just in her spare time. During the day, Wonnacott is a member of the four-person corporate communications and industry relations department. The department is responsible for ensuring FundSERV stakeholders are kept informed of the Company's activities through formal communication channels such as the company Web site, annual reports and of course, FundSERV Quarterly. Wonnacott is a contributing writer and also participates on committees.

Cheerful and outgoing, Wonnacott joined FundSERV in April of 2004. She graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2001 with a degree in rhetoric and professional writing, following up that degree with a post-graduate diploma in corporate communications from Centennial College.

"I started out pursuing an accounting degree, but midway through my second year I realized that I wanted to do something else," she says. "I took some writing classes and really enjoyed the creative process, so I switched to English."

Wonnacott says her experiences with FundSERV have exceeded her expectations.

"I'm enjoying my role in corporate communications and industry relations because it provides the opportunity to combine what I've learned from my corporate communication and English studies with my interest in finance. FundSERV is also a great place to work."

It's a good bet that even if the NHL can sort itself out, Wonnacott won't be accepting any offers; she plans to play on FundSERV's home ice for a while.
