By Evelyne Jhung Whenever the Electronic Standards Group (ESG) has had decisions to make on industry standards or issues, FundSERV has always been at the table facilitating the process. This spring, however, the Standard Steering Committee (SSC) approved FundSERV as a full voting member of the ESG, with Harry Gundy, senior manager of customer relations and business analysis, as the company's representative. "While FundSERV has always played a critical role contributing to the development of industry standards, this formally recognizes the partnership that exists among all participants in the decision-making process," says Jim Russell, past chair of the ESG. In addition, some responsibilities that originally resided with the ESG chair will now be taken over by Gundy in an effort to reduce some of the chair's workload. In August, the SSC approved the promotion of Michelle Fox, assistant vice president of dealer relations at Mackenzie Financial Corporation and current ESG member, to replace Russell as the new ESG chair. Russell, vice president of client services at AIM Trimark Investments, and Dennis MacPherson, manager of mutual fund operations at TD Waterhouse & TD Mutual Funds, have left the ESG to fill two vacant positions at the SSC. Says Russell, "I would like to thank the ESG members for their contributions and participation during my tenure as chair. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to work with a team of dedicated and experienced individuals. I know they will continue to move the industry forward." As a result of these moves, three new members have been invited to join the ESG: Rhonda Dalton, manager, mutual fund trade processing, Scotia; Glen Goldstein, IT team lead, TD; and Steve Benham, senior analyst, back office support and services, AIM Trimark. In addition to this year's enhanced concept (business case) review process for future ESG releases, this injection of new members is sure to boost the development of this industry committee. |
