As supervisor of FundSERV testing, Mark Bruce maintains a vision of a more efficient industry and more "free time" for his customers.

"Since my background is project management and business analysis, I'm always looking for ways to improve our business processes," says Bruce. "I think that technology should be fully utilized to create efficiencies in the workplace and free up more time for employees to focus on more challenging opportunities."

At any given time, there are 10 to 20 companies actively testing one of FundSERV's service offerings. Bruce's department is responsible for testing major upgrades to core software components. "Our main focus is to provide our customers with risk-free, cost-effective network applications," he says. "This is becoming increasingly difficult since companies in the industry are trying to differentiate themselves by offering unique products. Our challenge is being able to facilitate the use of these products on our network, while not adversely affecting our other customers."

Bruce is passionate about the challenges and the potential of the investment fund market in a drastically changing economy. "Over the last couple of years, the mutual fund industry has been going through some difficult times. With the economic troubles that we've been experiencing, as well as the consolidation that has become commonplace, there hasn't been a great deal of stability in the marketplace. A more efficient industry will be a more successful and stable industry to work within."

With degrees in both psychology and economics from the University of Western Ontario, Bruce is keenly aware of the positive repercussions of a less volatile industry. "We also need to regain the confidence of the workforce. I know of many people who are always wondering when the next acquisition or market drop will affect their livelihood," he adds.

Born in Toronto, Bruce came to FundSERV after working for StrategicNova Funds Management as a project manager and senior systems analyst. Previously, he was a consultant within the insurance and banking industry, primarily working as a senior business analyst. Since joining the Company, he says, "My experience has been that this is a close-knit group of people who truly enjoy what they do." Bruce enjoys his work too, and hopes his efforts will help the industry generate the best results for its companies, investors and employees.
