IDentity Overview

What is it?

IDentity is FundSERV's security service. Built around a public key infrastructure (PKI), IDentity combines the latest in security software with encryption technology to protect our customers' e-business transactions and communications.

Why use IDentity?

In today's "networked" economy, we need a safe and secure environment for the electronic exchange of information.

Now is the time to adopt a new, industry-wide security strategy. To this end, FundSERV has been systematically introducing full data encryption for all network and related communications.

There are valuable advantages to using IDentity:

  • authenticated identity

  • secure and private Internet transactions from beginning to end

  • single sign-on (one username and one password) to restricted services (e.g. FUNDcom, FUNDportal, FundSERV Web Services and Electronic Billing)

Who uses it?

Only authorized certificate holders can access PKI-enabled applications. This means that the user's employer must be trained and operating as a Local Registration Authority (LRA).

Learn more about LRAs

Learn how to become an LRA or IDentity subscriber by contacting FundSERV's Technical Support at 416-362-7378, toll free at 1-800-267-3526 or tech@fundserv.com.

How can I get an IDentity certificate?

See the Local Registration Authority (LRA) for your company.

If you don't have an LRA or are not sure if you have one, contact FundSERV's Technical Support at 416-362-7378, toll free at 1-800-267-3526 or tech@fundserv.com.

How does it work?

A public key infrastructure is a cryptographic key and certificate delivery system that enables secure electronic financial transactions and information exchange. PKI uses digital certificates and public key encryption to provide access control, proof of identity, data privacy, non-repudiation, and data integrity.

To make a PKI work, there has to be a Certificate Authority (CA) that plays the role of "trusted third party." In other words, there must be someone who can be trusted to verify the identity of individuals to whom certificates are granted and to operate the system.

FundSERV acts as the central Certificate Authority (CA) for the investment fund industry. As the CA, FundSERV issues and manages the digital certificates, administers the keys and their usage, and provides a repository where public keys are stored.

IDentity participants (subscribers) are assigned digital certificates to ensure their authenticity.
